Pulley Mount

Automotive Chassis Pulley Mount | RENCOL Tolerance RingsRENCOL® Tolerance Rings to simply fix the drive pulley to shaft in a rack drive Electric Power Steering System.

Electric Power Steering is the preferred method of power assisted steering in Europe and Japan. RENCOL® Tolerance Rings are used on both rack and column mounted EPS systems and applications.

RENCOL® Tolerance Ring

  • Good concentricity of mating components

  • Good performance over a range of component tolerances and operating temperatures

RENCOL® Tolerance Rings can be used to simply fix the gear wheel to the driven shaft -- replacing relative expensive keyways or splines.  More commonly, however, RENCOL® Tolerance Rings are designed to allow slip between the gear wheel and the driven shaft at a predetermined torque level.  This functionality enables the ring to protect the gear teeth from danger that would otherwise be caused by back-driven shocks (for example when the wheel hits a curb).

Simple Fixing Application

  • Replaces relatively expensive keyed or splined components
  • Transmits high torques without risk of slip -- e.g. 250Nm+ on a 25 mm shaft
  • Simple press fit assembly
  • Shaft can be reused should wheel need to be replaced

  • Allows slip between gear wheel and shaft to protect gear wheel from back-driven shocks
  • Allows use of relatively soft gear teeth -- e.g. polyamide -- that offer enhanced noise reduction properties
  • Improves system reliability
  • Allows multiple slip cycles to provide long service life (graph at right)
  • Simple press fit assembly
  • Shaft can be reused if wheel needs to be replaced
