Sliding bearings or also called plain, journal or sleeve bearings are bearings which reduce the friction between two mating components without a rolling element. A sliding bearing provides many benefits, such as low weight, corrosion resistance and noise and vibration reduction. Additionally, it is maintenance-free.
NORGLIDE® Plain Bearings offer special properties due to their thick PTFE sliding layer (~0.25mm). Over the entire service life, parts can be easily twisted, displaced or tilted. Possible rattling due to bearing play is dampened by the soft sliding layer. And even when the shaft is pressed lightly into the plain bearing or in the event of misalignment, the friction coefficient remains low. The wide range of different materials is an unbeatable advantage, especially for corrosion protection reasons. The load carrying capacity of the plain bearing can be increased by adding a metal intermediate layer. NORGLIDE® Bearings with an intermediate layer or a soft metal backing can be calibrated (plastically deformed) during assembly and compensate for manufacturing tolerances.
