During 2019, Saint-Gobain launched a new innovative material called SPRINGLIDE™ that is a combination of the proven global technologies of both NORGLIDE® Bearings and RENCOL® Tolerance Ring. This unique material makes it easier for manufacturers to deliver the level of comfort that the end users now desire. It is a new bearing technology that combines the low friction properties of a PTFE lined plain bearing and the radial spring characteristics of tolerance rings. The result is an advanced bearing, which is easy to install for e. g. automotive manufacturers and ensures that end users have a pleasurable drive without the annoyance of unwanted cabin noise or difficult to adjust mechanisms.
During September 2020 in conjunction with Webinar experts We Conference Group, Saint-Gobain gave a presentation on this new innovative and exciting material. This material has been developed and tested extensively over many years.
The webinar was presented by Graham Ellis and André Gabener. Graham is Global Segment Developer for Interiors, having spent around 30 years in the automotive business in various roles. André is Global Simulation Leader and has been involved in research and simulation all of his career. Between them, they have over 27 years of experience with in the bearings business.
This presentation shows how SPRINGLIDE™ can offer you unique engineered bearing solutions with tailored shapes, within how SPRINGLIDE™ can be designed to maintain zero clearance over lifetime.
The combination of spring steel and PTFE means less risk for clearance conditions, which can otherwise cause rattle. This means that automotive manufacturers no longer have to create a tight bearing fit which would increase the adjustment force to undesirable levels. The result is a controlled friction component that helps to create a high quality interior.
We are excited to share this new innovation, that can be designed as linear or rotational bearing and look forward to co-designing new systems for comfort with our partners.
