The compressor is responsible for 90% of an AC system's energy consumption. To make gains in efficiency, engineers must pay attention to this system. By choosing composite NORGLIDE® Bearings in the compressor, the bearing generates polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particles that act as a lubricant between the rotating shaft and the frame, bringing down friction between these parts. This movement delivers a measurable increase in compressor efficiency.
Conventional AC compressors feature metal bearings that require a regular injection of oil to create a fluid film. However, when the system uses variable speed or is turned on or off, metal-to-metal friction occurs, reducing compressor efficiency and component life. Working with our customers, we create smarter composite bearings with a layer of PTFE. Our NORGLIDE® Bearings feature much lower Coefficient of Friction (COF) in mixed friction conditions especially at initial start-up leading to reduced wear effect, increased efficiency and enhanced reliability throughout the compressor's lifetime.
